Stud Fee and requirements for the 2009/2010 breeding season

The Stud Agreement must be signed

  1. The covering fee being R6000 plus VAT
  2. a reduction of R1000 from the covering fee is allowed for the covering of second and subsequent mares within the breeding season, owned by the same person

An ultrasound test is required to establish that the mare is in foal between 16 to 20 days after the last contact with the stallion and shall be verified or confirmed by a further pregnancy test (manual palpation or ultrasound test) performed between 60 to 90 days of gestation to certify whether the mare is in foal. Unless informed in writing (and with written confirmation from an independent registered veterinary practitioner) before the 95th day after last contact with the stallion, it will be presumed that the mare is in foal. In the event that the mare is certified to be not in foal, according to independent veterinary certification, then the mare owner has the privilege to return the mare for breeding by arrangement with the breeder during the succeeding 12 months from the intended first cover by the stallion.

Should there be a live covering planned then the tests below should be carried out and proof of same provided for scrutiny before the stallion is presented.

  1. Negative Dourine test.
  2. A negative uterine culture.
  3. A negative test for Herpes Virus 1
  4. If applicable, a photocopy of all registration papers of the mare.
  5. Proof of vaccination for equine influenza, African Horse Sickness (and preferably strangles)
  6. Proof of insurance/or a written waiver
    All of the aforesaid certificates must be current and valid.
    Hind shoes must be removed before covering.

Stud Livery
Short-term Stud Livery can be provided at Kilgobbin Friesian Stud, which is close to Espaquest Iberian Stud, and owned by Mrs Carl Bronner. The stallions will be transported there and presented to the mares as necessary
.
Mrs Bronner requires:

  1. Her Livery Agreement to be signed.
  2. Proof of the tests and insurance listed in the stud requirements above.
  3. Her Livery fees are payable monthly, in advance.

Livery can be provided on the following basis.

  1. Grass livery with feed R 1475 plus vat per month . Includes feed, farrier every 6 weeks (trim only) and grazing.
  2. Stabling in pole barn R 2000 plus vat per month. Includes feed, farrier every 6 weeks (trim only) and grazing.

Vet bills, dips, vaccinations and deworming are all extra costs. R100 per hour fee for vet visits and stallion cover times.
